Safeway in SF's Fillmore to close after 40 years

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The Fillmore District's only Safeway store is set to close, Safeway confirmed to KRON4. The San Francisco store is expected to shut its doors in early March. The store located at 1335 Webster St. has been open for 40 years, Safeway said. It is across the street from the AMC Kabuki movie theater. The closest Safeway to the area will be at 2020 Market St. in the Castro District. Protests continue after People’s Park in Berkeley blocked with shipping containers Safeway said it agreed to sell 3.68 acres of the land to Align Real Estate, which will use it for a mixed-use development project, including housing and commercial retail. Walnut Creek restaurant forced to shut down after rodent infestation

(KRON) -- Bar Camino in Walnut Creek was forced to shut down last week after a rodent infestation, according to a report from Contra Costa Health. Upon county inspection, officials observed rodent droppings across the restaurant's premises. Inspectors, however, found no rodents, birds, insects or animals at the restaurant. They did observe multiple rodent droppings across five areas of the establishment. In total, inspectors found more than 50 rodent droppings.The Mexican restaurant located at 1470 N Broadway closed on Dec. 28, 2023. As of Thursday, Bar Camino has reopened. PERRY, Iowa (AP) — A 17-year-old opened fire at a small-town Iowa high school before classes resumed on the first day after the winter break, killing a sixth-grader and wounding five others Thursday as students barricaded in offices, ducked into classrooms and fled in panic.The suspect, a student at the school in Perry, died of what investigators believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound, an Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation official said. Authorities said one of the five people wounded was an administrator, later identified by his alma mater as Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger. UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United Nations issued a somber global economic forecast for 2024 on Thursday, pointing to challenges from escalating conflicts, sluggish global trade, persistently high interest rates and increasing climate disasters.In its flagship economic report, the U.N. projected that global economic growth would slow to 2.4% this year from an estimated 2.7% in 2023, which exceeds expectations.
